This is one of the most serious issues the world has faced ever. The world is moving fast. The economies are competing with each other across the world. The world has witnessed the unprecedented rate of growth of industries in the developing nations which seem to be eager to surpass the developed countries in terms of economic growth but has anyone considered the flip side of the huge progress made to date and would-be growth of so called developed nations?
Each and every nation pretends to be unaware of the adverse repercussions of the industrialization. Nature takes it toll and forgives none. There is a limit up to which it allows us to play with it. Nature has started giving augury in response to the huge and so far neglected Greenhouse Gas Emission.
Arctic glacier is going wild and has signaled the aftereffects of the excess greenhouse gas emission. Nobody knows when and in which form the nature is going to be furious again. Let's stop here as it would be unfair to discuss over the issue without knowing its fundamentals and its raison de'etre.
What is Greenhouse gas?
The atmosphere of the earth comprises a lot of chemical compounds that act as greenhouse gases. These gases let the sunlight enter the atmosphere. When sunlight hits the Earth’s surface, some of its part gets reflected back towards space. Greenhouse gases absorb this radiation and trap the heat in the atmosphere. The amount of radiation sent back to the sun should ideally be same as that of the radiation sent from sun to the earth hence keeping the earth's temperature roughly constant.
When there is plethora of greenhouse gases emitted to the atmosphere, the amount of energy retained to the earth's surface increases, though slowly but regularly which eventually causes the rise in temperature of the earth. In recent past, the industrialization has shown a trend of sharp increase over a period of time which has already wrought havocs and is still waiting for more. Constant temperature rise causes the unexpected melting of glaciers which eventually meets the sea water inducing floods in the coastal areas. Glaciers in Arctic have surpassed all the previous records and if this is even a slight of the slightest indications for the future, the repercussions may be beyond the human imagination. During past few years, the average temperature of the earth is increased by 5 deg Celsius. The blow won't be restricted to the coastal areas. As the amount of the melting ice step-up, it will have the potential to cover up the whole earth including the safest portion of lands on the planet. According to a recent report published after the Arctic glaciers meltdown, if the rate of melting remains same, we might not be on the planet by 60-70 years down the line.
Isn't the issue alarming yet? If yes, whom we are waiting for?
